One of the essentials for good health is proper nutrition, but unfortunately doctors learn little about this while attending their medical schools. This results in them being unable to educate their patients properly on how to improve their health, or they just offer simple advises based on “science” that favors big food corporations.
These corporations use scientific literature to indoctrinate us form early age, but recently they were exposed as a fraud, as many studies have emerged showing numerous problems with the modern day diet, which is generally accepted in the world.
It was recently discovered how the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) manipulates with media and science. The FOIA investigation showed how much the government agencies manipulate through mainstream media.
It turns out that we have been completely misguided about nutrition. However, it’s great to see nowadays so many people becoming more aware of this fact. They are taking their health in their own hands and are trying to lower the disease rates that keep rising.
Even though there are many factors at play here, the evidence point out that one of the biggest is the mass meat consumption.
A HEALTHY HEART AND HOW IT RELATES TO DIET
Many studies have shown the health benefits of meat-free eating, and the fact that plant-based eating can be nutritionally sufficient reducing the risk for many chronic illnesses as well.
The benefits of meat-free diet are without argue better, even from a scientific/biological perspective. Those who disagree with this usually point out that people have been meat-eaters for thousands of years, however that’s not entirely true.
Experts pointed out that our ancestors ate mostly plants, and for them meat was a ‘rare treat’. Our digestive systems aren’t used to eating meat on a daily basis.
“Some of our ancestors had different yet successful diets”, says anthropologist Katherine Milton. According to her many hunter-gatherer societies gained the biggest part of their dietary energy from plants, and others obtained it from “wild animal fat and protein.
“This fact does not imply that this is the ideal diet for modern humans, nor does it imply that modern humans have genetic adaptations to such diets”, points out Milton.
Rob Dunn wrote an article for the “Scientific American”, titled “Human Ancestors Were Nearly All Vegetarians”. In this article he explores this issue from an evolutionary point of view. According to him, we evolved to perform best on vegetarian diet and meat should be limited only as a ‘rare treat’ consumption.
Vegan and vegetarian diets have proven to be beneficial in several different areas, such as heart health. Sadly, this is the number one killer in the USA, and it’s impacted by people’s diets.
“Our standard American diet, also known as SAD, has put our country at the top of the list in the world for obesity, which increases the risk for serious health problems. Overwhelming scientific evidence links the consumption of meat and meat products to numerous diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) now places red and processed meat at the same danger level as cigarettes and asbestos. Meat is the new tobacco.”, says Dr. Joanne Kong.
If you take a look at the graphic on the picture below, you will notice that the risk of death from heart disease is significantly lower in vegetarians, and even more in vegans.
These facts are backed up even by the American Dietetic Association. Apparently, vegetarian or total vegan diets ate healthy, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and many more.
With all of the science in favor of no meat diets, even the President of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Kim A. Williams, has changed his way of living by adopting vegan diet.
He often works with overweight patients who struggle with hypertension, type two diabetes, and high cholesterol. Many patients are advised to go vegan in order to improve their health. Being the Chairman of Cardiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Williams believes that people who pursue vegetarian diets live longer than meat eaters and have lower rates of death from heart disease, diabetes, and kidney problems.
Another person, Dr. Dean Ornish, made a research in which he found out that patients who were put on a program that included vegetarian diet had less coronary plaque and cardiac events.
Dr. Ellsworth Wareham is just one more heart surgeon who has done a for awareness. He explains:
“Veganism is a very fine form of nutrition. It’s a little extreme to tell a person who is using flesh foods that you’re going to take everything entirely away from them. When I was in practice in medicine, I would tell the patients that the vegetable-based diet was the healthy way to go, and to keep away from the animal products as much as possible. People are very sensitive about what they eat. You can talk to people about exercising relaxation, good mental attitude and they will accept that. But you talk to them about what they are eating and people are very sensitive about that. If an individual is willing to listen, I will try to explain to them on a scientific basis of how I think it’s better for them.”
It is obviously that veganism has become one of the lifestyle choices that are spreading faster than ever. For example, in Britain there are at least 542,000 people that are following a vegan diet at the moment.
Just for comparison, in 2006 there were only 150,000. When it comes to vegetarians, another 521,000 of them has stated that they are hoping to reduce their consumption of animal products in the near future.
One of the most relevant studies on this topic ever that is conducted by the doctors Thomas Campbell and T Colin Campbell is called “The China Study”. Their research has shown a direct link that connects nutrition with diabetes, heart-disease and cancer. It also shows that many plant-based diet oriented cultures seem to have less problems with these diseases.
And of course, even by switching to a plant-based diet the body can successfully reverse the diseases that are there already.
THE COMMON CRITICISMS OF THIS TYPE OF LIFESTYLE CHANGE
“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan
Every day we are surrounded with a lot of information that we know they may not be true. But because they are repeated over and over again and they everywhere around us, after a while we start believing that they are true after all. And of course, when we think we know something for a fact, we are eager to do everything in our power in order to defend our opinion because this destructs our whole belief system. It even has a name: cognitive dissonance.
This is the reason why when a vegans/vegetarians and meat-eaters can’t find a common ground about the benefits that food and nutrition in general can bring in our lives.
At the end of the day, humans do not need meat to survive. They don’t even need to be vegans or vegetarians on order to remain healthy, but it’s a fact that restricted meat consumption is a far healthier option than the opposite.
Being aware of what’s really happening on many different levels is really important for every conscious human being. So, it’s not just about the food industry. It is also the financial industry, our health industry, how political systems work in general and so on. We should finally realize that many truths that we were certain of in the past are now skewed.
